General Questions
I’m having trouble logging in. What should I do?
Have you already registered? Make sure you register as a new user to create your username and password.

If you have already registered and can’t log in, click forgot password to reset. We will send you an email with instructions to follow. Sometimes, the app prefers you login using the same method you signed up initially - for example, if you registered through Facebook or Apple ID, please use that same method to sign in.

I’m having troubling linking through my Facebook connect, why won’t this work?
Make sure you have a valid and active Facebook account. You may need to be logged into Facebook on your mobile device for auto-synchronization. If not, simply enter your FB username and password to connect. Any trouble, please visit your Facebook account settings.

I moved permanently, how can I change my closet address?
Go to your Profile Details and from there you can update your closet information by tapping ‘Edit’ in the top right corner. Tap on where your current address is displayed, input your new address, and hit ‘Save Location’. This is now the address that will be linked for your pick-up and drop-off location and will also act as the center market when determining your search region and proximity. Your location is kept private, no other user can see your exact closet location, only proximity.

If you have an active rental in progress, you will be unable to update your address. Please either wait until the rental cycle is complete or you must cancel the rental before you are able to make this update.

I’m going out-of-town, can I hide my closet while I’m away?

Yes! We recommend it! Under your Settings toggle the option for Closet Unavailable on so that all of your items are no longer visible in search.

Please note, if you have already agreed to an upcoming rental contract, turning your closet to unavailable does not remove that future agreement. You will still need to fulfill this rental or cancel if no longer able.

How do I hang an item?
You can click the + Add Item from the bottom navigation bar or from the My Closet tab in the menu bar. Here you will be guided to upload photos directly from your gallery or to take them from your phone camera. Each photo allows for cropping and editing, you must select each photo and size it to your liking to get the check mark to appear. Once all photos have the check mark, you will be prompted enter all the item details below; description, type, size, occasion and color of the item. You can even decide whether you'd like this rental available for same-day requests. The last fields to enter will be the item's retail price, rental price per day, damage expense and your preferred wash option. You can hang any item in under one minute!
For items to be published on Hangurs and available for rent, you must complete the My Wallet section with your Payout, Payment and Stripe Identity Verification.

I got approval for a rental request I submitted, now what?

Great! You just rented an item for a fraction of the cost and expanded your closet with a click of a button! You will receive your item on the agreed upon date/time and it’s yours to enjoy until your return date/time! Once the owner receives their item back with no damages reported, the deposit hold will be released back to your credit card at the end of the rental contract period.

Upon acceptance, you will be charged the total amount listed on your request plus a hold in the amount the closet has indicated for damage expenses.

Please make sure you understand our fee schedule.

I’m going out-of-town, can someone else manage my closet while I’m gone?

Your closet is your own business- this is your decision. Your bank information and your credit card information are on file. If you trust your friend with your personal belongings and your finances, and they also have access to your closet, then… sure. We definitely don’t recommend it.

The safer alternative if you are out of town and will not be able to rent items out, would be to make all items invisible until you return. To do this, go your Settings and toggle ON the button Closet Unavailable. This feature makes it so that all of your items are no longer visible in search. Please note, if you have already agreed to an upcoming rental contract, turning your closet to unavailable does not remove that future agreement. You will still need to fulfill this rental or cancel if no longer able.

How many items can I hang up?

Unlimited! But before you go crazy, make sure you take proper photos and provide thorough descriptions. It’s better to have less items hung up that are desirable than have a high volume of items hung up that nobody wants. Your closet, your business, your standards.

Why isn’t anyone renting from me?

Has the item been published? Make sure under My Closet each item says "available for rent". If the item is not published, this means you are missing information under My Wallet.
Still no bites? Take a look at the item you are hanging, is it in bad condition? Make sure what you hang is something others will want to rent from you. Make sure you have priced it right. Make sure you show people what it looks like ON. Sometimes a shirt photographed on the floor doesn’t do it justice. Ask a friend to be your photographer and get your model on.

Why can’t I find a certain item using the search filter?

If you can’t find a specific item on Hangurs, this means nobody has hung up that item within your search range. Try zooming out and see if broadening your search region helps.

Know someone that owns it? Invite them to join! Once they hang up their items, you’ve just expanded your closet. Yes, it was a self-serving invitation and that's okay!

How much should I charge to rent an item?

We recommend 10% of original retail price; $500 dress = $50 per rental period (per 4 days). Ultimately, it is your closet and your choice.

Is there a reason why I shouldn’t hang an item?

The items you hang in your closet should be YOUR items. Do not hang up items that are not yours to hang. Do not hang undergarments and please do not hang items that are damaged and unwearable.

We suggest hanging items that have a minimum retail price of $200, which would amount to $20/4 days. Any less than that, renters may be paying more for the courier than the actual cost of the item- depending on the distance between you. However, if your item is rare, like a costume or hard to find item - maybe users would rent regardless of delivery fee.

Also, anything you are too scared to enjoy yourself, please do not hang. If you are uncomfortable wearing something yourself because it is too expensive or special to you, please do not allow others to rent from you.

I submitted a request and haven’t heard back from the closet, what gives?

Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee the activity or responsiveness of any member.
If your rental request is for same day, the owner has 1 hour to cancel otherwise your request will automatically expire.
If your rental request is for a future date, the owner has 24 hours to respond before the request automatically expires.
You will never be charged for an expired rental request and are alway able to re-request the same item.

You can see all outstanding requests in your Requests tab. You can cancel your pending sent requests under the Sent requests tab.

What is Damage Expense? How much should I charge?

Damage expense is the maximum amount we can charge the renter if your item comes back damaged (or does not come back at all). We recommend setting a damage charge of 40% - 60% of the original retail. When you accept a renter’s request, there will be “a hold” placed on the renter’s credit card in the amount of the damage expense set.

Hangurs will ultimately determine what percent of the damage expense, based on the severity of damage, to charge the renter. Also please keep in mind, If you set your expense too high, you may prevent renters from requesting items from you.

Most importantly, this damage expense is the maximum dollar amount we can charge the renter if your item is lost or is not returned. This amount should make you feel whole in this situation - think, what could I realistically sell this item for on Poshmark?
What happens if I keep the item for longer than my original rent request?
Every day the item you rented is past due, you are charged an additional rental fee the Owner set, plus any late charges and penalties from Hangurs and any late charges and penalties associated with rescheduling your delivery as well as covering the cost of the missed delivery from original return date. Please try to stick to your contract date and return items on time. Not only are you costing yourself money, but you are preventing others from renting that item since you are not giving it back.
For example, if you - the renter, are not home for the agreed upon pick up at the end of your rental period, you will be charged the following: one time inconvenience fee ($35) + transportation charges (for the missed delivery pick up and the rescheduled delivery) + one time door fee ($10) + rental period price that is set by owner + a daily penalty fee ($50). Just don't do it - plan ahead and return your items on time.

Please reference our fee schedule.

Why do I have to be home to get my rented item?

For security reasons, we will not leave items at your door. You must be home to receive the package from the driver. This is to prevent theft, track the receipt, and protect the items of each closet.

Can I just drive to the closet myself?

No. For privacy and safety reasons, all Hangurs’ closet locations are kept private. Nobody will know where the closet lives or when the renter lives.
I rented an item and think I lost it, what should I do?

If you can’t find the item, please report it as lost ASAP in your Requests tab or email us at info@hangurs.com. You will be charged in accordance with our fee schedule.
I hung an item but now can’t physically find it. What if someone wants to borrow it? What do I do?

Please reject the rental request since you do not have it. You can do this through the Requests tab, under the Received section. Also, to prevent others from attempting to rent the same item, please delete it from your closet as a rental option.
I rented an item but I don’t want it for the full amount of days, can I send it back early?

When you submitted your original rental request, you agreed to the terms and conditions of this rental period. This means you must keep the items for the agreed upon date/time of drop off. If you cannot be home, please make arrangements with a family member or friend to be there to hand the package to the driver. This is your responsibility to maintain the contract between yourself and the closet owner. Penalties will arrive if you do not comply; see our fee schedule for details.
I rented an item and it arrived to me already damaged, what do I do?

Once you receive your item, please click on your Requests tab and click on that item and select "Report a Problem". You have the option to provide us with details and photos of the damage during this report. Please notify Hangurs immediately or you may lose your ability to receive credit since we will not be certain when the damage happened.

We will review the information provided in your report and get back to you as soon as possible. Please keep your item for the full cycle of the rental contact, returning it on the agreed upon end date. We will determine the appropriate course of action and get back to you as soon as possible.

Hangurs charged me a transportation fee, what gives?

You are charged a transportation fee to remedy a problem that involved delivery. Upon delivery to the renter, the item you sent them was identified as damaged, or you were not home for pickup/drop-off and the delivery had to be rerouted, or another situation occurred that delivery was required to remedy. Please see the glossary of terms: Transportation Fee.

What is the inconvenience fee? Why was I charged?

You are charged an inconvenience fee whenever there is a problem that administration needs to be involved to remedy. Upon arrival to the renter, either you canceled a rental after the allotted grace period, the item you sent them was identified as damaged, you were not home for delivery/pick-up and the delivery had to be rerouted, or another situation occurred that administration needed to get involved. Please see the glossary of terms: Inconvenience Fee.

I rented an item and the wrong thing arrived.

Once you receive your item, please click on your Requests tab and click on that item and select "Report a Problem" - wrong item arrived will be one of your options. Please notify us immediately if something is wrong or the item arrived damaged. We ask that you hold onto the incorrect item and return with the initial agreed upon drop off date and time. We will get back to you as soon as possible to remedy this situation.

How can I delete items I hung up in my closet?

To delete your item, click on the item under the My Closet tab, tap the three dots in the right-hand corner, and delete. Boom it’s gone. No more renters can request this item once it is deleted.

If you have already accepted a rental request regarding that item, you cannot delete. Please either cancel the pending request under Requests or satisfy that rental contract before deleting the item. Failure to do so may incur fees based upon our fee schedule.

I got my item back from a renter and it’s damaged, now what?

Once you receive your item back from your renter, please click on your Requests tab and click on that item and select "Report a Problem". You have the option to provide us with details and photos of the damage during this report. Please notify Hangurs immediately or you may lose your ability to receive credit since we will not be certain when the damage happened.

We will review the information provided in your report and get back to you as soon as possible. Hangurs will assess the situation and use discretion to charge the renter an amount up to the damage expense you listed. All damage valuations are done so on a case by case basis.

When will Hangurs be available in my area?

What is the delivery wait time?

When picking up items, if your package is not prepared and ready within 5 minutes of your drivers initial arrival, our courier may request that you reschedule this pick up (at the driver’s sole discretion). Hangurs does not have any control or discretion on the grace period granted... so please, have your package ready!

Nothing! There is no fee to post items.

What is the fee to withdraw from my home account?

How can I link my credit card to my account?

To add your credit card, please visit My Wallet section found in the main menu and update the Payment section.

How can I add my bank account information to get paid?

In order to receive payouts on your profits from Hangurs, you will need to add your bank account information in the My Wallet section and complete the Payout section. You will also need to complete the Identity Verification section required from Stripe.

Can you just put the money I earned on my credit card?

No, money you earn can only go directly to your bank account.

I just rented out an item but I don’t see the income from it, where is it? How long does it take to post?
Your accumulated profit amount will always display on the top of your My Closet page, only visible to you.

To see the amount currently available to withdraw, please visit My Wallet under the top section titled YOUR CASH. If nothing has displayed, it might be because we are waiting for the completion of your rental period. Once your item has been returned in good standing, Hangurs will review the contract and release your funds, making it available to withdraw.

Can you direct deposit into my bank?

Yes! Under My Wallet, once there is cash available to withdraw under YOUR CASH section, you are able to send funds directly to your bank account. There is a minimum withdrawal required of $100.

Why do I have to have a card on file? What if I just want to make money?

In order to participate in the Hangurs community, whether you are renting from others or making a profit yourself, we need your credit card on file. Things happen on both ends of this equation and we want to make sure everyone is treated fairly. We have credit cards on file in order to remedy any situation.

Is there a monthly fee to be a member?

There is no fee to be a member!

Should I tell the renter to wash my item or just send it back as is?

Your instructions are completely up to you. You want others to rent from you, so the easier you make it, the more likely you will get more renters. “Send back as” would seems to be the most convenient way. Also, if your items are hang dry only or have specific washing instructions due to the material, it’s best if you wash it yourself.

Please always make sure you wash and dry your own items between rental cycles (you don't want to send it to another renter without cleaning it first).

How many times can I rent out the same item?

You can rent out the same item as many times as you would like, as long as you can keep track of it all. Be sure to wash or dry clean the item between each rented our use if the previous renter has not already done so in their instructions.

Once you notice signs of wear and tear, please make note of this under the item description or fix any damage. As long as you are straight forward about the condition of the item being rented and there is a demand for it, you are free to rent it out as many times as is requested!

What if two people want the same item?

Well, since you are your own business, you can ask yourself some questions: Who requested it first? Who wants it for longer? Your business, your call.

I made a lot of money; do I have to pay taxes on this income?

Yes. Please consult your tax advisor. Hangurs is not responsible for reporting your taxable income.

Can I hang up shoes?

Sure! Choose shoes in the category menu and pick your shoe size.

Can men hang up their items?

Of course! Be sure to select the correct gender when hanging each item.

Why should I use Hangurs?
Why scramble around a mall? Why pay full retail for something you want temporarily? Formal attire, rock concerts, auditions, Halloween costumes, theme parties or vacations! Whatever your one time need may be. Hey- with social media these days, isn’t everything a one-time wear?

Have a closet full of great stuff? Make your wardrobe pay rent! Turn your own closet into cash without having to sell your favorite gear.

How do I rent something?
Use the Discover tab to explore the map of items or the Search tab to narrow it down! Search by keyword, color, or specific item. Our extensive search features allow you to filter with text specific or keep it as broad as you want. Once you find what you want, click to request immediately or for a later date.
Who can see my earnings?
Only you can see the earnings of your own closet, others cannot see this. Under your My Closet, you will have the total accumulated earnings listed on the top margin; this will be helpful when reporting your annual income for tax purposes. We also will email you confirmation receipts with a copy of your invoice transactions. Please keep in mind, this is done as a courtesy and we are not responsible for making sure you report your income. Please speak to your tax advisor.
Can you give me some advice?
Are you hanging? Take good pictures with nice lighting. People want to see what they are renting from you. Ideally, you can take a photo wearing the item (neck down), so they can see the fit. Be reasonable with pricing. Don’t charge more than 10% of what you paid retail- they just want to wear it once. Don’t lie about the condition, color, fit, or designer… people won’t rent from you again.
Also, we don’t recommend hanging up items that will devastate you if they come back damaged or not at all. You need to be comfortable with the list price on liability. For example, you hang your favorite skirt- you paid $300 retail and you rent it out for $30 per period (4 days), great! It unfortunately comes back damaged and you receive $60 liability money from the renter- yet you still enter a state of depression. Was that worth it? If the liability money doesn’t make you feel whole again, please don’t hang it up.

Your closet, your emotions, your call.

What is the Hangurs community about?
Hangurs wants to make you money- but our primary goal is to help end the fast fashion craze and strive to minimize our mark on this planet. There is no need to overproduce apparel and add to textile waste in our landfills.

Today, Americans purchase 400 percent more clothing than we did 20 years ago. Did you know that the average American tosses 82 pounds of textile waste each year? This adds up to 11 million tons from our country alone. For the most part, these textiles are not biodegradable. This means they sit in landfills for at least 200 years. Let’s make a change and donate, share, and recycle.

We hope to build one large transparent closet, of the already produced inventory, for us all to share.

Finally, please be considerate and treat all items with respect. Remember that (cough) “friend of yours” that would buy an item from a department store, carefully wear it to an event, then try to return it after she wore it? That is the kind of respect we want.

How do I delete my account?

On the left menu bar under Settings, you will see the option to Delete Account. Please note, this is irreversible; you will lose your account name, data, photos, history and items in your closet. You cannot delete your account if you are in the middle of a contract; if you have someone's items rented or if someone is actively renting yours. All contracts must be closed in order to Delete your account.
